Philosophy and Educational Foundations in India

D.Ed.Spl.Ed.(IDD) · Course VII · Unit 2 · RCI syllabus 2023

Why does a special educator study philosophy and law? Because in the school day of a child with intellectual disability, the special educator is very often the only person in the building who knows what that child is entitled to.

This course covers four educational philosophies, nine educational philosophers, the Constitution and education, the RTE Act 2009 and the RPwD Act 2016, and the commissions and policies from 1948 to NEP 2020 and the National Curriculum Frameworks.

Every idea is tested against one child — Aarav, nine years old, in Class 3 of a Delhi government school under RTE. Every lesson asks the same question: what does this actually do for Aarav on Tuesday morning?
